12 games in 12 weeks - Begin!

I guess I'm taking a break from posting badly written dev logs of my lightsaber VR experiment.  Ideally I'll be writing about programming and general game development concepts but today I'll be talking about a 12 games in 12 weeks challenge that I plan to participate in.  So, to try to hold myself accountable to that idea, here I am writing about it...

Back in October I originally set out to make one game a week, but 8 months went by and I'm pretty much only on my second game idea. So, I've gotten into a rhythm of sorts that amounts to a relatively fleshed-out prototype every 4 months.

Then I saw this tweet:
Jason's 12-game journey begins today and I'm going to attempt to follow along but I'm planning to start much smaller in scope and will most likely come up with my own ideas.

To be totally honest, this scares the shit out of my and I seriously doubt that I'll get anywhere with it since I'm already spread way too thin with my own games and a course I'll be teaching in July, but we'll see...

Well, I'm not letting myself off the hook that easy. So, here's one of the ideas I've thought of...
It's a Simon game...

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about , it's a very old memory game with 4 pads. Each pad has a different color light and musical note that plays. I believe it is as simple as it gets. It starts by playing one note and waits for you to play that one note in response, then it plays 2 and you respond with the 2 notes. And this pattern builds and builds until you respond with a wrong note, and I guess the game ends with flashing lights and some kind of error sound. Easy peasy! I'm excited to try this idea because of my love of music. I'm curious as to how I can expand on the original concept and make it a little more unique. We'll see...

I guess I'll spend an hour a day or something working on it and at the end of the week I'll just put it down I guess and move on to the next project. Starting......... now!
